3 Supplements for PCOS Weight Loss
Supplements are a funny topic when talking about weight loss as the science of weight loss is this; you must be in a calorie deficit and you must be in hormonal balance. This means that any supplement that helps you lose weight must help you achieve one of these two 'laws' of weight loss.
1️⃣ L-Carnitine
L-carnitine is an amino acid that plays a crucial role in the production of energy by transporting fatty acids into your cells. In cells, it helps transport fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they can be burned for energy.
One analysis of research looked at the results of nine studies and found that supplementing with carnitine led to a significantly greater amount of weight loss as well as a larger drop in body mass index compared to a control group.
Daily dosage: 1.5g
2️⃣ Glucomannan
Glucomannan is a type of fiber found in the roots of the elephant yam, also called konjac. It can feed the friendly bacteria in the intestine. It can also lower blood sugar, blood cholesterol, and triglycerides, and is very effective against constipation.
Three human studies showed that glucomannan, combined with a healthy diet, can help people lose 8-10 pounds (3.6-4.5 kg) of weight in 5 weeks.
Daily dosage: 2g - 4g
3️⃣ Inositol
Inositol is a vitamin-like substance like can help improve insulin sensitivity by acting as a secondary signal to the hormone insulin. This is incredibly helpful for women (and men) who have insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance, a problem with your body’s ability to respond to insulin, is considered one of the key factors associated with conditions like PCOS, metabolic syndrome, and weight gain for people with these conditions.
