Why The Biggest Loser Contestants Put The Weight Back On
Here’s a shocking stat for you. In the first ever series of The Biggest Loser (US version). The top 6 contestants lost a combined 276 kilos. Now, that’s an amazing achievement. 13 years later they caught up with those 6 successful contestants and guess what? They all weighed more than they did before the show!
To me, that’s super upsetting because I know how emotionally impactful being overweight can be. I know it cuts down to your soul and has massive repercussions on your self-worth and confidence. These 6 people aren’t alone though, 98% of people who attempt to lose weight will put the weight back on and even more shocking is that 66% of people will end up even heavier.
There are a few reasons for this. They found that in the biggest loser contestants that they had actually done damage to their metabolisms. Yes, even 13 years later their metabolisms never went back to normal.
What happens is that you put your metabolism under so much stress trying to lose weight as fast as possible that it fights back to protect your body from what it sees as starvation and danger.
